Why are they called cupcakes?
A little history:
The cupcake evolved in the US sometime in the 19th century, and it was revolutionary because it saved a lot of time in kitchen. From ingredients being weighed in, the trend shifted to ingredients being measured out. It is yet to be found by experts as to where exactly the name cupcake originated. There are a few theories: the cakes were originally cooked in cups and another, the ingredients used to make cupcakes were measured out in cups. Sometimes they were also called number cakes, because it was easy to remember by measurements of ingredients it took to create them: One cup of butter, two cups of sugar, three cups of flour, four eggs, one cup of milk, and one spoonful of soda.
Today we see cupcakes of wide variety, fillings, flavours, icings and decorations.
